We encourage all Veterans to check out the Honor Flight website and avail themselves of the opportunity afforded them. we would also encourage all Veterans to donate to this worthy cause. It is an experience you will never forget.
Our Post is proud to have one of our members, who served as a Huey Pilot in Viet Nam, participate in this effort. Charlie Skitsko is working to restore tail number 823 back to flight status, and is being re-certified as one of her pilots.
Charlie writes: "We are very excited , our main rotor hub is out for inspection and refurbishment , it is due back any day . Once we install the head we can proceed with engine run-up, blade tracking, flight testing, and one of our primary goals - of which we have three: Educate , Honor , and Restore . We will be using our aircraft to visit Vets and other community events.
The Huey seems to have a mystical connection with Veterans. Most have a story related to it or a similar bird. During our rebuild we witnessed, first hand, the draw it has to them, and it has led to many of them seeking help and to truly come home."
