Our Post History

Our Chalfont Post 3258 was established
May 15, 1996.

It had 31 Charter Members.

One of the original charter members, Jim Dunn, tells the following story of a Post with two beginnings…

Years ago, the original Chalfont VFW Post was disbanded due to lack of members.  The name of the post was Albert F. Wick VFW Post 5588. One of the 3 former post’s flags still stands proudly at the Chalfont Borough Hall.

Our current VFW Post 3258 was conceived when two members from District came to Jim’s house in the Spring of 1996, and asked if he would be interested in starting up a new post in Chalfont. Jim was Intrigued by their request, so District members asked him to attend a meeting in the Chalfont Borough Hall to discuss it.

At first, they gave him the famous line, “you wouldn't have to do anything, just show up”.

But, Jim recalls the discussion quickly turned to all of the particulars of starting up a new post, including the different staff positions and responsibilities. By the end of the meeting, Jim was the Quartermaster for the newly formed post, one of the two positions he held for the next 20 years.

Currently, Chalfont Post 3258 continues to flourish and grow under the new Post Commander, David Dantzler. As of July 2021, the Post staff and members now meet at the New Britain Township building on Park Ave in Chalfont.
